Pretending, seeming, and not being – this is the social roadmap for each and every person nowadays. Your social appearance, your outside mask step by step replaces your identity, the real you, and at the end – there is no «you» anymore.
one room. one number board. one black booth. 25 uncomfortable private questions. 45 chairs uncomfortably close to each other. 45 stranger people in the same auditorium, entering each other personal space. each of them is the viewer, the listener and the actor at the very same time.
before entering the room, each of them has received his unique number from 1 to 45. the phone numbers of all these 45 people are now on a speed dial of one phone in the black booth.
you see your number on the board – you enter the booth – you take the black phone – you choose the number from 1 to 45 on a speed dial – you wait – you hear the voice on that side – you dont know whom you talking to – you know, that this person is in the room, but you cannot see them – you ask one of questions – you receive the answer from the stranger – you go back to your place – you wait for the same call to you – you aware that once it will be your turn to answer, all the people around will hear you perfectly.
By ‘Hidden Public” I want to talk about discomfort, fear and shame. I want to hypertrophy those so much that they become visible and obvious to everybody. Due to this, I am going to offer the audience the unthinkable – for a short period of time, to become sincere in front of themselves and in front of strangers. Or, if sincerity is too terrifying, i offer to at least realize and feel this fear and shame as an abnormal phenomenon.
