Sharpen Frames solo exhibition
Frame. Cage. Crucial.
Human is inscribed in the geometry of the space. At first glance, it seems to be external, but in fact it is internal.
Walls play a key role here: they squeeze and guide the character, determine his or her status as movement or lack of movement.
A hero, who falls into pieces. He gradually wanes in the dispersion. Starting with the classic naive figurative, the story goes into the destruction of man as value, preserving only shadows and contrasts.
After all, there is only the viewer peering out of the window.
The series explores the human response to restraint. It is here not only for the characters, but also for the audience: the series has a direction, starting from the front canvases, it gradually changes the angle from work to work, this clear regulation and dominant forms depress the viewer’s interpretation freedom.
Limitations also stand for the author — consciously and fundamentally the artist pushes herself into the frames of not only one medium, but also one colour. That is to be on par with the character and the viewer.
The opening day of the exhibition will feature an audiovisual performance “Chromesthesia: Si”. Ukrainian composer Andrii Volyk will perform an improvisation, that will reveal the expressive capabilities of just one note. Chromesthesia is a phenomenon, in which audible sounds automatically and involuntarily provoke the colour images. In the minds of many scholars of sonority and colour, Si note has strong associations with the shades of blue.
The musician remains solitary with his artwork. Without going beyond the hall or the acoustic-colour synesthesia, Andrii Volyk, using a single note as the basis, will place the melodic core of improvisation in different harmonious contexts. And the viewer will be faced with a restriction on access to the musician’s personal space.
